BINST ARCHITECTS celebrates 50th anniversary with manifesto and reference work UNTITLED
A conceptual and analytical gesamtkunstwerk as new blueprint, offering in-depth insights into our multidisciplinary body of work.
‘UNTITLED: The Making Of’
This document was born out of a dual mission and message. On the one hand, our focus is on rethinking and more strongly defining our work as an updated blueprint. On the other hand, we emphasise the growing need to illuminate the complex building medium from a series of thematic chapters. Both missions are united under the conceptual title ‘UNTITLED’. This book doesn’t rely on any specific notion, name or real title, but ‘UNTITLED’ refers to a working methodology and attitude of continuous evolution and change. It also offers an up-to-date view of the office BINST ARCHITECTS. ‘UNTITLED’ is a term often used in art, inviting the viewer to interpret a work without a title. We consider it a key word that coincides with the structure of our book.”

In our jubilee edition, B 05 magazine represents the footprint and preview of a pivoting design year, where this green cover is partly symbolic for our increasing focus on a conceptually wider DNA and a more outspoken use of materials in our architecture. In short, a complementary selection of various commissions with a grand footprint in ambition, scale, and social interaction. The ‘In Focus’ section features Aequor, a sharply defined, bright residential tribune as the recent, newly constructed business seats along the MAS as well as an atypical urban villa as a sculptural object or architectural layered cake in Boechout. Meanwhile, our ‘Room for Art’, also known as ‘B scene’, has recently been transformed into a joint scene and complementary message from Binst Architects models, B brand design furniture concepts, and our growing appreciation for arts integration.
‘HQ Binst Architects’, Lensvelt – Office projects

Cordeel’s new office is a technological and architectural statement. De Boelwerf, the 87-hectare Belgian shipyard on the Scheide, dominated the skyline of Temse for 165 years until the yard was bottled in the early 1990s. Together with Aertssen, Cordeel bought up eighty-five hectares in 2011 to develop.
MAS in sight. The new Port House in Antwerp was designed by top Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid. The old harbor house went down. The promoters Bermaso and Vlaamse Poort now attract AEQUOR, 64 luxury apartments with a view of the Scheldt, MAS, port and city. As architect Luc Binst states: “Aequor is the living room stand with the business seats on ‘t Eilandje.“
Curved curtain wall accentuates new media house. The new DPG Media headquarters will be the showcase of the renewed neighborhood at Antwerp Central Station. The building is a design by Binst Architects and was realized by the Belgian BESIX Group.
“Iconic flagship over the water.” An architectural feat, a technical feat, a unique eye-catcher: there are many ways to describe Cordeel’s new headquarters in Temse. The 108 meter long beam volume bridges the former dry dock of the Boelwerf, which is strategically located on a side arm of the Scheldt. Steel, glass, mirrored façade panels and a boundless ambition are the ingredients that unanimously appeal to this constructive gem.
“Outdoor Experience Center rises along E17”. Under “Creating healthy spaces” – Renson’s mission – “Outdoor living” is a fast-growing department. In the ‘De Prijkels’ industrial zone, along the E17, the company is therefore building a brand new building. With a striking façade of more than 300 meters and an impressive showroom. The new “Outdoor Experience Center” should be operational by 2021.
Eco-friendly renovation for lawyers. The law firm Loyens & Loeff has taken up its new quarters at number 2 of avenue de Tervueren in Etterbeek. More than just a move, this new building is part of an eco-responsible and sustainable approach desired by the firm.
‘Smart white living‘
The residents of a loft in Brussels wanted to make the transition to the countryside, more specifically to a detached house with the characteristics of their former home: sleek, spacious and with seamlessly merging living functions on one level. After purchasing a former orchard, they visited a home designed by Binst Architects (formerly Crepain Binst Architecture) during an open house weekend. That visit convinced them to work with the bureau.
Bart Versluys proud of design for 81 rooms and 80 apartments. «Grandpa built old hotel Europe, I the new»
The new Europa hotel in Bredene, from Groep Versluys, will have 81 rooms. Next to it is a separate building with 80 apartments. The building permit has just been issued. “Because of my grandfather, who built the former hotel,” Europe project “is close to my heart,” says CEO Bart Versluys.
The Avenue de Tervueren in Brussels is still prestigious. 8 km long, this artery that crosses several municipalities and two regions always attracts developers and residents. “The address remains a prestigious address.
Offices: Redesigned façades Tervueren 2. Along its eight kilometers, Avenue de Tervueren also has some offices, most of which are located near Cinquantenaire or Montgomery. At the entrance of the avenue, in Merode, the building Tervueren 2 has just seen its complete renovation completed. Former office building, he keeps his assignment and has been refitted to measure for a law firm that will soon move there. “At first we had the project to transform this building which AG Insurance has owned since its construction in the 1970s into a residential project. We had organized a competition won by the Antwerp office Binst Architects “says Christophe De Man, development manager for AG Real Estate, project manager. “But the law firm came forward and we changed the project, always with the same architect.” The building underwent a major renovation. “We only kept the structure. The facade has also been modified to integrate more harmoniously with its urban environment. And in particular the old coating – architectural concrete – was replaced by stone. “
