City Gate
The project provides for 3 distinct residential buildings along Kerklaan in a park-like setting. The former brownfield site, was transformed into a green oasis where it is now pleasant to spend time. A raised ground floor level and large wadis between the buildings address the flood-prone location. In Kerklaan, the buildings have a maximum height of four storeys, in keeping with the small-scale character of the street. Towards the spacious green inner area, the building height increases, only to decrease again in height with stepped south-facing terraces. This characteristic volumetry connects the 3 buildings, each of which acquires its own individuality in the façade design: solidity with scaled recesses, horizontal layering and a rigid masonry grid.
