Lake Side, one of Belgium’s largest and most ambitious developments.
The iconic Tour & Taxis site will soon develop further into an important and high-profile lever for our capital, providing an answer to various social, urban, environmental and mobility challenges.
Real estate developer and investor Nextensa called on a team of top national and international architects for this challenging task.
46 candidates from 8 countries responded to the ‘OPEN CALL’ launched in collaboration with the Brussels Master Builder.
Nextensa is continuing the transformation of Tour & Taxis for the development of the second Lake Side residential zone. For this, 5 design architects were selected to bring diversity and quality to its new residential development on the lake at Tour & Taxis.
BINST ARCHITECTS – Cobe (DK) – EFFEKT (DK) – HUB Architecture & Urbanism – POLO Architects
These 5 firms will work with MVRDV – the author of the master plan – and Bureau Bouwtechniek – the appointed executive architect – to make Lake Side an exemplary development to complement the Tour & Taxis neighbourhood.
BINST ARCHITECTS will be assigned a project section of 10,000 m² – 17,000 m² to develop and design a new residential concept. In the spirit of co-creation with the selected architects, the project focuses on future-proof construction, circular use of materials, sustainable energy production and the creation of a high-quality, inclusive living environment.
The development of the final phase of some 140,000 square meters involves a thoughtful mix of offices, hospitality, convenience stores and public facilities in addition to a diverse residential program with about 800 homes.
If all goes well, the works will start in early 2025 and the continuity of the development of this unique place will have a vibrant and intriguing conclusion.
