The vision for the Leieboorden in Kortrijk of ‘The river makes the city’ sets out a framework that includes a number of strategic projects. Quite a few of these projects have since been completed, thereby visibly enhancing the attractiveness of the Leie. This design involves the Guido Gezellepad site.
The dynamics that the Leie bring to Kortrijk are considerable. Lowering the banks of the Leie to create the Leieboorden breathes new life into the Broel Towers and neighbouring area. The Broelhotel will soon be repurposed and the Broelkant school site replaced by a new ambitious housing project. The K-tower was recently opened, creating a new landmark for the city.
This project proposal entails a global vision for the redevelopment of the Guido
Gezellepad site, with corresponding Kuil school building and Zusters van Liefde buildings. The project proposal aims to achieve a sustainable and attractive balance between the financial aspect on the one hand and social cross-neighbourhood aspect on the other.
