Dock Tower, an architectural pennant at the Kempisch Dock in the heart of Antwerp
BINST ARCHITECTS was named laureate for the design and construction of a residential tower on the Eilandje.
This 81 m high tower comprising 152 apartments in 22 storeys will become a new landmark due to its urban orientation and F-shaped construction facing the ZNA hospital.
Because of the slender substructure with its extended terraces and the wider superstructure with its built-in terraces, this slender disc will present itself as an architectural banner or iconic needle on the Kempisch Dock. In addition to the provision of 15 identical and 7 different storeys of housing typologies, numerous links are possible and the Dock Tower is bursting with housing opportunities. The residential tower will be crowned with a large roof terrace with greenery that is partly accessible to the residents.
Given the rather white and dark tones of the surroundings, the Dock Tower will fit distinctly in a sand-coloured frame like a warm and receptive gate tower towards the north of Antwerp.
A tower as an architectural sculpture, a silently built story, slender as a needle, which, thanks to its remarkably wider superstructure, claims its place as a recognizable icon and streamer on the water.
