Binst Architects was invited, as 1 of 6 parties (3 BE agencies, FR, ES, IT) and won this competition as leading architect to develop a vision and concept for an ambitious resort project worth € 80 M on the French Côte d’Azur. Together with Coussée & Goris Architects from Ghent and the two engineering firms Boydens and Ney, a powerful architectural concept was presented as a tactile and timeless statement. The project results in experiential architecture that works throughout the different seasons. A basic architectural vocabulary of parallel lines, walls or objects has been distilled to produce a readable and flexible whole that refers to land art and natural patterns. The project consists of a 5* luxury hotel with a very spacious spa, a Michelin-starred restaurant, a gentleman’s club, an art gallery and even a recording studio. Linked to this is an extensive range of managed hotel residences. These 50 units, behind the hotel complex, consist of luxury villas and apartments that are connected to the resort hotel by concealed access roads. The different entities are positioned on the hill in such a way that the best views are provided without compromising on privacy. Throughout the entire project, the feeling of being ‘alone on the hill’ prevails!
