The project is located at the junction of Hoogkamerstraat and Kapelanielaan, a strategically positioned site along the N16 in Temse. The existing complex, which has evolved over the years, currently presents an incoherent character.
With the ambition to retain and repurpose as much of the existing building as possible, a careful selection was made of the elements suitable for the future program. The building sections that no longer align with the vision for the site have already been demolished.
In the coming years, this location will serve as a sales and maintenance center for motorhomes, complemented by workshops and an outdoor store. The new volume, centrally positioned on the site, will connect the different existing buildings and act as a structuring element. The various program components will be organized around a spacious central entrance hall.
Along the N16 and at the ends of the complex, the entire structure will receive a new façade, both for the new buildings and the existing ones. This will create a harmonious, uniform appearance, giving the building a strong identity. The abstracted ‘A’ of Alpha Motorhomes functions as a transition zone, separating the public area from the workshops.
The horizontal lines of the building, stretching almost 150 meters in length, are accentuated by wood-clad trim. Where the building follows the slope, these trims emphasize the slanted lines, adding dynamism to the façades that reflect the future use of the site.
The existing, curved canopy cannot be retained due to insufficient clearance for motorhomes. However, the column structure of the canopy will be repurposed and serve as a support for solar panels, contributing to the generation of sustainable energy. This will create a striking focal point at the building’s entrance, emphasizing the project’s sustainable character.
