Albert, a new urban landmark by restoring the grandeur of the historic factory site.
The former telephone factory ATEA in Berchem between Belpairestraat and Boomgaardstraat, has recently been completed. The disruptive outbuildings have been replaced with a fresh new construction, while the factory itself, complemented by an additional top floor, has been fully repurposed into a vibrant mix of functions. The existing supermarket remains in its familiar location and is enhanced with additional office space and apartments, all within the raw character of this industrial heritage.
Behind the historic façade, enclosed winter gardens have been created to serve as outdoor spaces for the apartments. The tone-on-tone top floor crowns the building in a respectful way and, together with the new program mix, provides a fresh boost to both the building and its surroundings.
The Albert Building will undoubtedly become a new characteristic cornerstone for this already vibrant part of the city.
